Nokia's finest!

For those of you who know Nokia by their mobile phones, did you know that the company started out making rubber boots, car and bike tyres? Although Nokia corporation has now no more commercial interest in tyres, the brand is still one of the strongest in the Nordic countries. (Apparently)... So, accordingly, here's a photo of some essential bicycle kit, Nokia hakkapeliitta, which will set you back about 70€ a pair. Quite cheap, when you consider that 2 years ago when we bought our car, we decided on buying a good set of studded winter tyres (Nokia Hakkapeliitta 4), only a cool 700€! Well worth the investment. Certainly on the bike, if you intend on cycling on an ice rink, the studs (yes, they're studs) don't make much difference, but in normal conditions they have stopped me from ending up on my arse quite a number of times. Here's also a piccy of my pride and joy - it don't look like much, but it does the job. The other sterling quality this bike has is that it's well down the list of bikes worth stealing. With no gears and only the back pedal brake, which only works if you stamp extremely hard on it (!) the focus is on keeping it moving, so although a little slow on the uphill, it doesn't half shift. I take less time than my dear wife with seven gears to get into town!
