Nicely piled

Here's how the tree looks now - there was still a lot of tidying to be done, but this is the bulk of it:

We'll have to wait about 6 months before it's dry enough to burn - it's already quite dry, because in the winter all the moisture is stored in the roots. Should keep us going for a bit, we hope.

Its very impressive, but I feel it needs a cover. See Viking Longships photos, please.

Yes, thank you, it has been covered. Both piles are now considerably higher, as these photos were taken on Saturday, and the final clearing up and chopping hadn't been finished. As we've since had another 10 cm of snow, there are hardly any traces left of the tree and its felling either!

You call that a wood pile????!!!

No seriously, good job and birch is as good as it gets for heating.

Considering the size of the tree, it is surprisingly little, but the larger pile is 60cm logs for the oven, and the smaller pile is 30 cm. A lot of twigs and bits have been picked up too, but this is the bulk of it. As we've had another 25cm of snowfall on top of the first 10, there's now, 5 days later, no trace of the tree having ever been there.
